IGNORE THE IMPOSTOR SYNDROME - DREAM BIG!!

Hello everyone!

Steve Jobs, Co-Founder and CEO of Apple, Inc. once said that everyday he would look himself in the mirror and ask this question, “If today was the last day of my life, would I be happy with what I’m about to do?” If his answer was no for too many days in a row he knew he needed to make a change.

Do you need to make a change? If yes, do you know what that change should be? Do you know why you’ve been unable to make that change? Major change is upon us, things are changing everywhere and the times we’re living in are really (in my opinion) more serious than they appear! For sure, change will take a complete stretching out of our comfort zones and into the unknown with a solid plan for our personal growth and success. If not, we’ll remain stagnant and then we’ll look back on the last 10 years of our lives and see that nothing much has changed outside of our ages.

“Motivation is what gets you started, habit is what keeps you going.” (Jim Rohn)

“Take action! An inch of movement will bring you closer to your goals than a mile of intention.” (Steve Maraboli)

”For we are each responsible for our own conduct.” Galatians 6:5 NLT (New Living Translation)

How do we manifest change? By doing. Change is really decisive action with discipline. If you don’t have other goals besides maybe finally getting to take a vacation or perhaps saving $1,000 by the end of next year that’s OK, we’re starting here and now and we’re dreaming really BIG! Ignore the feelings of inadequacy before you start listing your dreams, and ignore the imposter syndrome thoughts that are sure to come against you when you’ve achieved a goal. (The Imposter syndrome is defined as the inability to believe that your success is deserved, or that your success has been legitimately achieved as a result of your own efforts).

For example - from the moment I finished writing the draft of my first book in 2013 (Elevate Your Heart, that has still never been published) I had thoughts of, “Who will buy your book? You have nothing good to say, you’re only saying what other people have already said, you have nothing new.” I’m telling you there was a barrage of thoughts coming against my mind in an attempt to make me feel like I didn’t deserve to write a book. That’s the impostor syndrome at work but here’s something to know about this type (or any type) of negative thought: YOU CANNOT ANSWER A THOUGHT WITH ANOTHER THOUGHT! When those types of thoughts come against your mind, you’ll have to OPEN YOUR MOUTH and counteract them.

When you hear words such as, “You’ll never lose weight, you’re too old now, you’re dumb, you will never learn how to trade, investing is not for you, you’ll never be married, he/she doesn’t really love you, it’s time to give it up and settle for what you have”, etc., that’s the time to open your mouth and speak back! You say something like: “I WILL LOSE THE WEIGHT, I’M SMART, I WILL LEARN HOW TO TRADE, I AM A WISE INVESTOR, I’LL GET MARRIED TO THE MAN/WOMAN OF MY DREAMS, I LOVE MYSELF AND PEOPLE LOVE ME, AND I REFUSE TO SETTLE FOR WHERE I’M AT!”

Jesus gave you authority (Luke 10:19), so use it to plan out your life! Let’s write out our dreams, please give yourself permission to dream really big! Do you want to finally get your pilot’s license? Do you want to own a sky-scraper in New York City, buy a personal jet, or even buy a house? Do you want to open up a store? Maybe you want to open up a homeless shelter or a soup kitchen? Do you want to write a book or finish your degree? How about vacationing in Switzerland or Venice Italy, or being paid $275K per hour for motivational speaking? (Hillary Clinton isn’t the only person that can get paid that much for speaking!), you and I can as well! Begin writing and DREAM BIG!
