METAVERSE HERE WE COME!
Have you ever heard of Decentraland? Or the Metaverse? Or the company called META? Let’s dive in this week and chat about it!
Last October, the company that was once known as Facebook legally became META. When they changed their name to META that was a big clue to me; I knew that something was about to go down and that I was going to find out more about it!🙌🏾 I haven’t heard this from anyone at META, but I’m pretty sure the name change has something to do with the Metaverse. What is the Metaverse you ask? Well, here we go!
The Metaverse got its name from the 1992 science-fiction novel Snow Crash which was about a virtual reality space in the universe. I remember as a child my sister and I played with a toy called Master View. We would look through the lens of this toy and it would take us virtually to many places. The toy came with several slides full of pictures of different sights in countries around the globe. As we clicked the lever on the side of it, we would get a fabulous slide show. There was Niagara Falls, there were sunflower fields, there was a volcano, various animals, etc. Debbie and I loved it!
Fast forward to today, where the Metaverse (a bit like the Master View) is not accessible by putting a slide inside of a toy, but it is accessed via the internet. It really is a shared virtual space that is interactive and uses virtual reality (VR) technology. There are several virtual worlds inside of the Metaverse where we can engage in all sorts of activities.
Instead of just staring at the screen like you are doing right now, with the Metaverse you will be able to actually be inside of your online experiences. How cool is that! You can shop in the Metaverse, you can also attend concerts, hang out with your friends, and this may even sound wild right now - but I also see corporate board meetings and even church services in the Metaverse! Pastors get ready, the future is already here!
Later on this week we’ll touch on some of the advantages/disadvantages that the Metaverse has to offer but for now I can tell you that the Metaverse is decentralized! (I’m hoping that you still remember what being decentralized means: basically it means that it (the Metaverse) is not controlled by or tied to one person or organization, instead there are several authorities). Yes! Every individual that enters has individual control, no one entity or company can control the Metaverse! 🤸🏾♀️🙏🏾🥂
We will chat more about this tomorrow. Take control of your week and your month by having (and keeping) a schedule/to-do list; don’t take no for an answer; and drop the excuses - find a way to make things work! Have a happy Monday!
